I like to keep gift giving simple with “want, need, do, read, wear, share.” It helps me stay balanced so I’m not overbuying or accidentally getting one kid way more than the others. Axel is at such a fun age to buy for right now. He’s old enough to have his own interests but still gets excited about just about anything. Here are some of our top picks this year for boys ages eight to ten.

Game Day Slippers
Ninja Pajamas
Axel is at that stage where he wants to be comfy but also “grown up.” These pajamas are soft, cozy, and not too babyish. I love finding PJs that he actually wants to wear, and these are it.
I Survived Book Boxed Set
Fleece Joggers
These joggers are a favorite around here. They’re thick enough for cold weather, but still soft and flexible for playtime. They look nice enough for school and are durable enough for everything else.
Giant Checkers / Tic, Tac, Toe
This game set is so fun for family nights. We love playing checkers or tic-tac-toe after dinner. The big board makes it feel special, and it’s a great break from screens.
Button Up Cable Knit Sweater
This sweater looks so handsome on. It’s warm and soft, and it gives him that classic winter look without being itchy or uncomfortable. Great for family pictures or church.
MP3 Player
DIY Walkie Talkie Kit
This STEM Walkie Talkie Kit is seriously the coolest thing. Your kids can build the walkie talkies themselves, and then they actually work! It keeps them busy, curious, and totally entertained.
Axel’s list this year made me realize how fun this age really is. He still gets excited over the little things but is starting to appreciate the useful stuff too. Hopefully these “want, need, do, read, wear, share” ideas make your shopping easier for the boys in your life.
